The MSK Educational Subcommittee, consisting of esteemed professionals in the field of Musculoskeletal (MSK) Interventional Radiology (IR), passionately committed to advancing the practice within the Arab region. As a specialized branch of interventional radiology, MSK IR focuses on employing minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat a wide array of musculoskeletal conditions, including joint pain, spine disorders, bone tumors, and soft tissue injuries.

Dr. Gamal Niazi
Ain Shams University

Born in Cairo, 1976. Has been graduated from faculty of medicine Ain Shams University in 2000. He received his master degree in diagnostic and interventional radiology in 2004 and his MD degree in 2009. Currently he is holding the position of professor of interventional radiology in Ain Shams University.
Beside being a consultant of Interventional Radiology in many eminent hospitals, oncology and radiology centers in Egypt, he has also been subspecialized in musculoskeletal interventional radiology with many internationally published papers in this field of specialization including a paper entitled “ Factors affecting time to pain relief in patients with osteoid osteoma treated by CT guided percutaneous radiofrequency ablation” published in the Egyptian Journal of Radiology and Nuclear medicine in 2015, and a paper entitled “ Computed Tomography-Guided Radiofrequency Ablation of Osteoid Osteoma in Atypical Sites: Efficacy and Safety in a Large Case Series” published in Academic Radiology Journal in 2020 with more than 15 years of experience in body and MSK interventional procedures.

Vice President of the International Society of Non-Invasive and Virtual Surgery.
Founder of HIFU Egypt, the first center for focused ultrasound tumor ablation in the Middle East and Africa.
Elected Fellow of the Arab Society of Interventional Radiology.
Board Member and Treasurer of the Egyptian Society of Interventional Radiology.
Co-founder of the Egyptian Pain Foundation.
Founder of Shefaa Interventional Center (Shefaa).
Co-founder of Elixir for Gastrointestinal and Interventional Minimally Invasive Treatment.
Head of the Medical Imaging Department, Assalam International Hospital, New Cairo (JCI accredited).
Prof. Hamed works as a Senior Consultant in Interventional Radiology at the largest private hospitals, including Assalam International Hospital and Dar Al Fouad Hospital (both JCI accredited). He received extensive training at Cairo University Hospital (6,000 beds) and the National Cancer Institute (1,200 beds), specializing in various oncology intervention techniques such as radiofrequency ablation (RFA), microwave ablation, irreversible electroporation (IRE), embolization, and pain management. He also completed further training in China and the Netherlands.
Prof. Hamed serves as a reviewer for both Egyptian and international journals specializing in interventional radiology and hyperthermia techniques. He has published numerous papers in international journals and shared his expertise at many prestigious international conferences, including AIUM, the European Society of Interventional Radiology, the European Society of Radiology, the Asian Society of Gynecology, the African Society of Radiology, and the PAN Arab Society of Interventional Radiology. He has delivered hundreds of lectures at Egyptian universities and societies.
He is also a member of CIRSE, PAIRS, ESR, EPS, and ESIR.

Dr. Salem Bauones

Salem Bauones, MD, is a subspecialty consultant of musculoskeletal imaging and non-vascular interventional radiology at King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh, where he serves as non-vascular interventional radiologist. He completed his residency program in Diagnostic Radiology at Aix-Marseille University in France and achieved his clinical fellowship certificate in diagnostic and interventional MSK radiology at University of Montreal in Canada. He obtained his second fellowship certificate in Interventional Radiology from the University of Strasbourg in France. His clinical expertise involves the role of interventional oncology in multidisciplinary management of different tumors including lung, kidney, bone and soft tissue. Dr Bauones is a member of the editorial board of the CVIR journal and has more than 25 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the National Scientific Board of Radiology at the Saudi council of health specialities, is a former program director of the residency program of diagnostic radiology and of the fellowship program of the MSK radiology at King Fahad Medical City
