Dr. Mohammad Badran

For the last seven years, Mohammad Badran has been working as a consultant interventional radiologist at King Faisal Specialist Hospital. He obtained his MBBS from the University of Jordan in 1993. After doing his internship and one year of Medicine in Jordan, he did his five-year Radiology Training at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London.

Dr. Badran did his two-year Interventional Radiology fellowship at Royal Liverpool Hospital in the UK and worked for eight years as a Consultant Radiologist at Mid Essex Hospital NHS Trust before joining his current hospital.

Dr. Badran’s interest is in the management and treatment of Vascular Malformations. He lead a multidisciplinary team at his institution to treat these conditions, including AVM, Venous Malformation, lymphatic malformation and several related syndromes. Dr. Badran has a considerable role in diagnosing and management of vascular tumors, such as hemangiomas.

Dr. Badran has a long experience in almost all aspects of international radiology, particularly the management of peripheral vascular disease and aortic aneurysms. For the past years, Dr. Badran has treated a significant number of patients with varicose veins, including pelvic congestion syndrome and genital varices. He has carried out a significant number of intra nodal lymph angiograms procedures to help manage lymphatic leaks and diagnosing congenital abnormalities.

Karim Abd El Tawab is currently holding the position ofInterventional Radiology Consultant; Interventional Radiology Unit, Ain Shams University Hospitals, Cairo, Egypt; which is one of largest Interventional Radiology Institutes in Egypt and the Arab world providing him with 13 years of experience in various Vascular and Non Vascular Interventional Radiology procedures especially Interventional Oncology and HCC management, GIT and Biliary interventions as well as Uterine Artery Embolization for fibroids. He started the first team in Egypt and the Middle East to perform prostatic artery embolization in 2012, he is the first in Egypt and the Middle East to do Hemorrhoidal embolization in 2015 and also the first in Egypt to perform Bariatric embolization in 2016. It is worth mentioning that Dr. Abd El Tawab is also one of the pioneers in Egypt in emergency embolization procedures “a 24/7 service in Ain Shams University Hospitals”. He is a board member in the Pan Arab Interventional Radiology Society and the head of the Marketing and Media committee, Head of #IAM_PAIRS Interventional Radiology awareness program, founding and board member of the Egyptian Society of the Interventional Radiology. He is also a member of SIR and CIRSE. He has given more than 140 talks and lectures in various international and local conferences.

Mohammad Al Moaiqel joined the Vascular and Interventional Radiology Section at the King Abdulaziz Medical City, Ministry of National Guard, Riyadh, KSA in 2003 where he served as the Head Division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology as well as the Deputy Chairman of Medical Imaging Department. From 2004 to 2008 he was appointed as Director of the Residency Training Program in the Medical Imaging department. In 2010 he was recruited at the King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences where he was appointed an Assistant Professor in College of Medicine and recently as the Director of Vascular and Interventional Radiology Fellowship Program.

Dr. Moaiqel graduated from King Saud University in Riyadh, KSA and completed his radiology residency at mcGill University in 2001. He successively received advanced fellowship training in both abdominal imaging and non-vascular intervention at McGill University in 2002 and vascular and interventional radiology at University of Toronto with the award of excellent performance in 2003.

His clinical interests includes the disease management, treatment of adult and pediatric vascular diseases and minimally invasive, image-guided therapeutic and non-interventions. Dr. Moaiqel performed minimally-invasive image guided procedures such as chest tube placements, percutaneous drainages abscesses, biliary drainages and feeding tube insertion. His focus is also venous access for dialysis and chemotherapy patients, angioplasties for renal access and peripheral arterial disease and embolization procedures for active bleeding, tumors and fibroids, RFA ablation for liver tumor.

Besides his interest in clinical service and research, he is passionate about resident and fellow teaching. He has recruited and trained several vascular interventional radiology fellows and has won several “excellence in teaching” awards.

Dr. Moaiqel is actively involved in vascular and interventional radiology research and he has published in prestigious journals as well as presented his work at national and international radiology meetings. He is a frequently invited speaker and moderator at national and international conferences.

Dr. Moaiqel is a senior member of the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society, American College of Radiology, American College Roentgen Ray Society, Society of Interventional Radiology, Radiological Society of Saudi Arabia and American College of Phlebology.

Mohamed-Karji Almarzooqi is Vascular & Neuro Interventional Radiologist working as Medical Director of Burjeel Hospital, Abu Dhabi, UAE. He is a French board holder (DES) in diagnostic imaging from the Descartes University in Paris. He moved to Montreal and did 1 year fellowship in Vascular and interventional radiology in the Montreal University – Canada. Then he went back to France and did another fellowship in Interventional neuroradiology for 2 years.

Dr. Marzooqi is currently the Treasurer of PAIRS.

Dr. Mohammad Arabi

Mohammad Arabi is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist at the King Abdulaziz Medical City and King Abdullah. Specialized Children Hospital, National Guard Health Affairs, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Arabi earned his medical degree from Damascus University in Syria and completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. Dr. Arabi received fellowship training in interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, and diagnostic neuroradiology at the University of Michigan, and he is American Board Certified in diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine, and vascular medicine. Dr. Arabi has been a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists in United Kingdom since 2007 and was awarded a fellowship from the Pan Arab Interventional Radiology Society (PAIRS) in 2017.

Dr. Arabi is the founder and first Editor-in-Chief of The Arab Journal of Interventional Radiology (AJIR) and serves as editor and scientific reviewer of several medical and interventional radiology journals (JVIR, Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology, Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, the Saudi Medical Journal, the Avicenna Journal of Medicine, and others).

Dr. Arabi’s main areas of interest are venous, transplant, portal hypertension, and oncological interventions.

Dr. Refaat Salman

Refaat Salman is a Consultant Vascular and Interventional Radiologist at King Abdulaziz Medical City- Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He obtained his medical degree (Dr. med. univ.) from Karl-Franzens University, Graz, Austria and completed his training in diagnostic and interventional radiology in well-known clinical institutes in Switzerland and Germany. He obtained the German Board (Facharzt) in Radiology. He held the position of diagnostic and interventional radiology consultant at the Institute of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology in Ingolstadt Hospital, Germany.

Academically, Dr. Salman has a Master Degree in Health Business Administration from Friedrich-Alexander University, Nuremberg, Germany. Additionally, he obtained the European Board in Interventional Radiology (EBIR).

Dr. Salman participated actively in many international radiology conferences. His main interest and expertise is in the field of peripheral vascular diseases and related interventions.

Dr. Azzam Khankan

Azzam Khankan, MD, PhD, EBIR is a consultant interventional radiologist at National Guard King Abdulaziz Medical City, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Khankan received both undergraduate medical education and radiology residency training at Damascus University and its hospitals in Syria.

Subsequently, he pursued a postgraduate education and advanced clinical training in interventional radiology at Osaka University and its hospital in Osaka, Japan where he earned his Degree of Philosophy in Advanced Medical Sciences. He served a research fellow at the National Cardiovascular Center in Osaka, Japan where he worked dedicatedly in biomedical research related to the role of interventional radiology in controlling/inducing angiogenesis in different diseases. Then, he completed additional clinical fellowship training in interventional radiology at McGill University Health Center, Montreal, Canada and in pediatric interventional radiology at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada.

Dr. Khankan is active in multiple aspects of interventional radiology and has been performing a wide variety of vascular and non-vascular interventions. He has a special interest in interventional oncology (hepatobiliary and lung) and embolotherapy. He is the author of numerous published abstracts and many peer-reviewed journal articles and he participated actively in the conferences of top European and American radiologic societies.
